DEL-2523 (24V / 8.5Amp)

Step-down transformer, 220 V AC to 24 V AC secondary at 8.5 A, 204 VA, for building a linear stepper supply.

Secondary voltage
24 V
Secondary current
8.5 A

Overview

The DEL-2523 is a step-down transformer, taking 220 V AC mains and delivering a 24 V AC secondary at up to 8.5 A, roughly 204 VA - the same voltage as the DEL-2031, at more than half again its current rating.

On its own it only steps the voltage down - it has no rectifier or filter capacitor, so it can't power a DC stepper drive by itself. Paired with the TLP-04 rectifier and filter card, which is rated for transformer secondaries feeding drives in the 24-48 V class, this becomes a complete linear power supply: the transformer sets the voltage and current capacity, the TLP-04 rectifies it and supplies the bulk capacitance a stepper system draws on during acceleration.

204 VA at 24 V gives real headroom for a couple of drives running together, more than the smaller DEL-2031 offers at the same voltage - useful where the machine has more than one axis but the application doesn't need more than 24 V.

For a similar current rating at higher voltage, the TD-19 and TD-16 in this range run 30 V and 42 V secondaries.

Supplied by Tiny Controls in India.

Questions

This is the same voltage as your DEL-2031 — what does buying this one actually get me?

More current at the same voltage — 8.5A here versus the DEL-2031's rating, more than half again its capacity, giving real headroom for a couple of drives running together at that same 24V.

Is 204VA enough for more than one axis?

Yes — it gives real headroom for a couple of drives running together, more than the smaller DEL-2031 offers at the same voltage.

What if my application needs more voltage at a similar current?

The TD-19 and TD-16 in this range run 30V and 42V secondaries at similar current ratings.

Which rectifier/filter card pairs with this?

The TLP-04, rated for transformer secondaries feeding drives in the 24-48V class.
