PP-BOB2-v1 (Discontinued, please see PP-BOB2-v2)
Discontinued parallel port breakout board for CNC control, superseded by the PP-BOB2-v2; ran from 12 V DC rather than the v2's 24 V.
Overview
The PP-BOB2-v1 is discontinued. The PP-BOB2-v2 is the current version and the one to specify for a new build; this page exists for machines already wired to a v1 board.
It was a parallel port breakout board translating a PC's DB-25 parallel port into screw terminals for a CNC machine, compatible with Mach3, TurboCNC, EMC2 and KCam. Step and direction outputs covered 4 axes plus an X-slave output, with the X-axis output buffered twice and brought out on two separate connectors for gantry-style machines running two motors on one axis. Three onboard relays and an isolated PWM-to-0-10V output handled spindle switching and speed reference. An onboard charge pump, jumper-configurable from 200 Hz to over 15 kHz, held the outputs disabled without a live signal from the PC, and could be turned off and the output repurposed as a general-purpose signal.
The detail that matters if you are replacing one on a running machine: the v1 runs from 12 V DC, where the v2 runs from 24 V. They are not interchangeable without re-wiring the supply — check what the rest of the panel is built around before ordering a replacement.

I've got a machine already wired to one of these — can I just swap in a v2 instead if this one fails?
Not without re-wiring the supply — this ran from 12 V DC, where the v2 runs from 24 V. Check what the rest of the panel is built around before ordering a replacement.
Does it have the same dual-output X-axis for gantry machines that the v2 has?
Yes — the X-axis output was buffered twice and brought out on two separate connectors, same as the v2.
Does it have the same charge-pump safety feature as the v2?
Yes — a jumper-configurable charge pump (200 Hz to over 15 kHz) held the outputs disabled without a live signal from the PC, same behavior as the v2.
