Overview

The S-500-24 is a switch-mode power supply taking 220 V AC and delivering 24 V DC at up to 20 A, 500 W - the highest current in this range, at 24 V rather than the higher voltages the other 500 W and 350 W models offer.

24 V sits at the low end of most stepper drive input ranges, so this is the choice for a machine running several smaller drives together rather than one drive needing more voltage headroom - 20 A gives real headroom for multiple axes starting together, where a smaller supply's rail would sag. A stepper drive's current draw spikes during acceleration, so even at 20 A it's worth totalling each axis's peak draw, not just its running current, before assuming the supply covers the machine.

It also holds less bulk capacitance than a linear supply built around a transformer - more of a concern here than on a single-drive supply, since several axes decelerating together compounds the regenerative current it has to absorb. Where that matters, the TLP-04/TLP-05 rectifier-and-filter cards build a linear supply instead.

For the same power at higher voltage, the S-500-48 delivers 48 V at 10 A from the same 500 W.
