Overview
The DW2272 is a two-phase stepper drive that takes 110-230 VAC directly from the mains, unlike the DC-input drives in this range (the Tstep and DW870-DC series), which need a separate DC power supply ahead of the drive.
Output current runs 2.3-7.2 A, a current ceiling that covers larger NEMA 34 motors - the higher end of the M2864/M2868/T85H motors in this catalogue's stepping-motor range. Feeding the drive straight from mains AC removes a power supply from the panel, which simplifies wiring on a machine with one or two large axes, at the cost of losing the DC bus flexibility a separate supply gives (running several drives from one shared DC rail, for instance).
Because the input is mains voltage, wiring and enclosure clearances need to follow mains safety practice rather than the low-voltage DC wiring used elsewhere in a typical CNC panel - this is not a drive to wire like the 18-80 V DC drives sitting next to it in a panel.
Where a DC bus is preferred instead, the Tstep-168X covers a similar current range (1.2-8.0 A) from a 24-160 V DC or 18-110 V AC supply.
