Overview
The DW872 is a two-phase stepper drive that accepts either a 24-100 V DC supply or an 18-80 V AC supply directly - useful where the available supply is AC (a transformer secondary, for instance) rather than a rectified DC bus.
Output current runs 2.4-7.2 A, a wider range and a higher ceiling than the DW870-DC (18-80 V, 1.4-7.0 A) in this same range, and the DC input voltage extends further too - up to 100 V DC against the DW870-DC's 80 V. That extra headroom matters most on longer axes and higher step rates, where a stepper motor's winding inductance limits how fast current can be established and torque falls away as speed rises; more supply voltage keeps torque up further into the speed range.
Where the supply is a transformer secondary rather than a rectified DC bus, feeding AC directly to the drive avoids a separate rectifier stage.
For a fixed 18-80 V DC drive without the AC-input option, the DW870-DC or Tstep-087 cover a similar current range at a lower voltage ceiling.
