Stepper drive, close loop, 2 phase 24~50VDC, for 57/60mm motor

Closed-loop stepper drive, 24-50 V DC, for 57/60mm frame motors, 4000 pulse/rev encoder feedback.

24 - 50 V DC
Encoder resolution
4000 pulse/rev
Speed range
up to 4000 rpm

Overview

The SDW60 is a closed-loop stepper drive for 57/60mm frame motors (the NEMA 23 class), running from a 24-50 V DC supply.

Unlike an open-loop stepper drive, which sends step pulses and assumes the motor followed them, this drive reads back a 4000 pulse/rev encoder on the motor shaft and corrects the pulse train if the motor falls behind - a sudden load spike that would silently stall an open-loop system instead shows up as a brief correction, not a lost position. Speed runs up to 4000 rpm, and microstepping is set by 15 DIP switch options rather than fixed at one resolution.

This is a drive-only product - it needs a matching closed-loop motor with the encoder already fitted, such as this catalogue's ME260T030EC, plus the separate encoder and power cables (EC1-030/EC1-080 and PC1-030/PC1-080) to connect them, none of which are included.

For the equivalent drive sized to an 86mm frame motor instead, the SDW86 covers the ME286-series motors in this catalogue.

Supplied by Tiny Controls in India.

Questions

What do I actually get from closed-loop that a regular stepper drive doesn't give me?

It reads back a 4000 pulse/rev encoder on the motor shaft and corrects the pulse train if the motor falls behind — a sudden load spike that would silently stall an open-loop system instead shows up as a brief correction, not a lost position.

Does this come with a matching motor and the cables to connect it?

No — it's a drive-only product. You need a matching closed-loop motor with the encoder already fitted (such as this catalogue's ME260T030EC), plus the separate encoder and power cables (EC1-030/EC1-080 and PC1-030/PC1-080) — none of that is included.

What motor frame size does this suit?

57/60mm frame, the NEMA 23 class.

I've got an 86mm motor instead — will this work with it?

No — the SDW86 covers the 86mm ME286-series motors instead.
