T57H111-4004 NEMA-23 Stepping Motor High Torque

NEMA 23 high-torque stepper motor, 111mm body, 4.4 A/phase, 3.14 Nm / 32.0 kg-cm holding torque, 4 leads.

Flange size
57 mm (NEMA 23)
Phase current
4.4 A
Holding torque
3.14 Nm \ 32 kg-cm

Overview

The T57H111-4004 is a NEMA 23 stepper motor with a 111mm body, the highest-torque motor in the NEMA 23 frame size in this catalogue - well ahead of the 2.8 A T57H series, at 3.14 Nm / 32.0 kg-cm against their 0.99-1.85 Nm / 10.1-18.9 kg-cm.

It draws 4.4 A per phase (0.85 ohm, 3.8 mH). That current needs a drive with headroom above the T57H series' 2.8 A - a Tstep-117X (1.2-7.0 A) or Tstep-168X (1.2-8.0 A) rather than the smaller Tstep-484.

Four lead wires bring out one connection per phase, fixed in series at the factory.

At 111mm this is a long motor for a NEMA 23 flange, and the extra body length is what buys the torque - worth checking physical clearance behind the mounting flange before fitting one in a tight enclosure. Where a NEMA 34 flange is an option instead, the T85H series covers more torque again in a larger frame.

Supplied by Tiny Controls in India.

Questions

111mm sounds long for a NEMA 23 motor — will this actually fit in a tight enclosure?

Worth checking before you commit — this is an unusually long motor for a NEMA 23 flange, and that extra length is exactly what buys the torque. Check physical clearance behind the mounting flange first.

How much more torque does this actually give me over the regular T57H series?

Well ahead of them — 3.14 Nm / 32.0 kg-cm here versus their 0.99-1.85 Nm / 10.1-18.9 kg-cm range.

What drive does 4.4A need?

A Tstep-117X (1.2-7.0A) or Tstep-168X (1.2-8.0A) — the smaller Tstep-484 doesn't have the headroom.

If I need even more torque and a bigger flange is fine, what's next?

The T85H series, in a NEMA 34 flange, covers more torque again.

Leads and wiring?

Four leads, fixed in series at the factory.
