Overview

The TLP-05 is the rectifier and filter half of a linear power supply, supplied without a transformer so you can pick the secondary voltage and VA rating your machine actually needs.

Bulk capacitance is 8000 uF, made up of eight 1000 uF low-ESR capacitors rated at 100 V. Bulk capacitance is what a stepper system draws on during acceleration: the drives take current in bursts as each axis starts, and it is the reservoir on the card rather than the transformer that supplies those peaks without the rail collapsing. Low-ESR parts matter for the same reason — a high-ESR capacitor of the same value sags under exactly the load this card exists to handle.

The 100 V rating suits transformer secondaries feeding drives in the 60-80 V class. For lower-voltage systems the TLP-04 is the same card rated at 63 V and costs less.

Questions

Does it include a transformer?

No. That is the point of the card — you supply a transformer with the secondary voltage and VA rating your machine needs, and this provides the rectification and filtering.

TLP-05 or TLP-04?

Both have 8000 uF of bulk capacitance. The TLP-05's capacitors are rated 100 V, the TLP-04's 63 V. Choose by the DC rail your drives need, leaving margin above the transformer's off-load voltage.

What transformer secondary voltage should I use?

Rectified DC is roughly 1.4 times the AC secondary voltage off load, so stay well below the 100 V capacitor rating and below your drives' maximum. Ask us if you would like it checked against your drives.
