Overview

The TS-31 is a 3.5 kW air-cooled spindle in a square body, built for heavier cutting at lower rpm than the round-body 3.2 kW TS-30/TS-34.

It runs at 8,000-18,000 rpm - a lower range than the round-body spindles in this catalogue - which suits larger cutters taking heavier bites rather than fine finishing. Tooling is held in an ER20 collet, and the spindle weighs 6.8 kg. The square body and mounting bracket are a different profile from the round spindles above, so a machine built for one is not a drop-in fit for the other.

Power is 3.5 kW, drawn from a 220 V three-phase supply at 14 A through a variable frequency drive sized for the motor; the VFD's output frequency sets the running speed within the rated range.

Where the workshop supply is 380 V three-phase instead, the TS-32 is the same spindle wound for that voltage.

Can I bolt this into a mount I already built for a TS-30 or TS-34?

No — the square body and mounting bracket are a different profile from the round spindles, so it isn't a drop-in fit for a machine built around one of those.

Why does this run slower than the round-body TS-30 at similar power?

It's built for heavier cutting at lower rpm rather than fine finishing — 8,000-18,000 rpm suits larger cutters taking heavier bites, a different design target from the round-body spindles.
