Overview

The Tstep-087-485 is the bus-controlled member of the Tstep range. Where the other drives wait for step and direction pulses from a controller, this one accepts commands over RS-485 — so the motion can come from a PLC, a PC or an HMI without a pulse-generating card in between.

It offers two automatic modes. In online mode the host issues commands and the drive executes them as they arrive. In offline mode a stored sequence runs on the drive itself, which means a simple machine can run with nothing else on the bus once it has been programmed. Both are configured with the software supplied on the download page.

For standalone use there is a manual start/stop input with a speed potentiometer, so the drive will run a motor at a set speed with no controller at all — useful for conveyors, feeders and test rigs.

Electrically it matches the rest of the range: 18-80 V DC supply, output current selectable from 1.2 A to 7.0 A, optically isolated step and direction inputs, idle current reduction and short-circuit protection.

What is the difference between online and offline mode?

In online mode a host issues commands over RS-485 and the drive executes them as they arrive. In offline mode a sequence stored on the drive runs by itself, so a simple machine needs nothing else on the bus after programming.

Can it still be driven by step and direction pulses?

Yes. The optically isolated STEP and DIR inputs are present, so it can be used as a conventional drive as well.

How is it programmed?

With the configuration software on the download page — separate builds for online and offline modes. Both connect over the RS-485 link.

How does it differ from the Tstep-087X?

Same 18-80 V, 1.2-7.0 A power stage. The 087X takes step and direction pulses only; the 087-485 adds RS-485 command control, stored sequences and a manual speed pot.
